I'm needing to get a part-time job, and was planning on applying at a local stand-alone emergency clinic (some refer to them as a Doc-in-the-Box). My full time job is at an ER at a hospital that is part of a large corporation.
My question is, when you apply for a part time gig, do you put down your HR person as a contact, or your immediate supervisor? My team leader of the department knows that I'm looking into this and is upset that I'm having to resort to this...but the company refuses to let me work OT for various reasons. I'm an excellent employee, and I get lots of support from my team leader.
It's been a while since I've worked for a corporation, so I'm not sure what the proper protocol is currently. I'm fine with putting either one down, unless there's some reason as to who should be my contact.

From what I understand (in TX atleast) someone calling for a reference can not ask anything outside of your employment dates and if you are rehire-able. I am now a field supervisor and when people call that is ALL I give. I would just give the number to Human Resources. They should know.
Good Luck

The job applications usually ask for your supervisors for each position and have a separate area for you to list references, if references are asked for. When it has been awhile or I know that my former supervisor has moved on, I will list the contact info for the HR dept. if there is one, depending on how the question is worded.

Generally on an app they want the name of your supervisor to see if you are lying. They will then call the former job to see if that person really is there and then the supervisor will usually transfer them to HR. References are meant to be more personal type references - people you have spoken with that are either peers or supervisors that are willing to speak with someone about you. These references are not limited to the usual date of hire/eligible for rehire questions. Thus - you had better know for sure that the person will give you a positive reference and ask them PRIOR to you using them as a reference.
