Hi everyone,
I'm in my final year of my AGACNP program at UCSF. I know I'm still quite some time away from the job hunt but I'm already getting slightly antsy about my job prospects when I graduate from this program. Has anyone graduated from this program? My questions are:
1) Do people get hired at their clinical site of preceptorship on a regular basis?
2) How easy or difficult was it for you to find a job afterward graduating from this program (in the SF Bay area specifically or even outside of the Bay)?
3) How important are "contacts" in hospitals? I.e. knowing an NP friend at a major hospital
3) How to increase chances of getting into a fellowship at either UCSF or Stanford?
Thank you for reading!

Well, I went to Hopkins, but I think the answers would be similar. UCSF is one of the best programs in the nation. Generally, students at such schools receive at least one job offer as a result of a clinical rotation. You should be asking your faculty advisor these questions. Most schools also have a Career Center with people that assist students in developing their resume, contacts, job fairs, and so forth - Hopkins assigned everyone a career advisor. The Alumni Association is also a great resource for networking. Contacts at places you are interested in working for are always helpful, no matter what the field. Employers do give special attention to employee referrals, so if a friend refers you, that is a big plus.
