Stanford vs UCSF NP fellowship?
Hi all, Has anyone ever gone through the NP fellowship program at either Stanford or UCSF? If so, I have a few questions I'd love to ask you. 1) How did you get in? (Are there specific applicant qualities that made you stand out?) 2) What specialty was your fellowship in? CT surgery, critical care, heme-onc? 3) Good/bad about the fellowship? Would you recommend it? Thank you for reading

Job prospect after UCSF ACNP program?
Hi everyone, I'm in my final year of my AGACNP program at UCSF. I know I'm still quite some time away from the job hunt but I'm already getting slightly antsy about my job prospects when I graduate from this program. Has anyone graduated from this program? My questions are: 1) Do people get hired at their clinical site of preceptorship on a regular basis? 2) How easy or difficult was it for you to find a job afterward graduating from this program (in the SF Bay area specifically or even outside of the Bay)? 3) How important are "contacts" in hospitals? I.e. knowing an NP friend at a major hospital 3) How to increase chances of getting into a fellowship at either UCSF or Stanford? Thank you for reading!

Working during UCSF AGACNP?
Thank you for your reply! In Fall 2018, the classes will be Tues, Wed, and Thurs (clinical). I ended up finding a per diem position to help. I did look into full time (3 12 hour shifts a week) but I decided that I would end up being miserable if I did that! Can I ask what to expect during the first semester of clinical? Do you mostly shadow the NP in the assigned hospital or actually start doing things like assessments, etc.? I assume the way the clinicals work are very different from undergraduate nursing school!

Working during UCSF AGACNP?
Hi all, I'm starting the AGACNP program at UCSF this fall. I currently work at one of the big 4 hospitals in the bay area, 4 days a week (day shift). I love my floor, people I work with, I know the system, and I've developed some seniority here. However, My hospital doesn't offer any reduction in work hours to accommodate school. I ideally want to work 2 12 hour day shifts. I'm trying to connect with current students to see how your work schedule is while doing this program? Do you think it's feasible to work 4 days a week + 3 days of classes? What work schedule do you typically work? Appreciate any tips. Thank you.

University of San Francisco DNP-FNP Program
Hi everyone, Wondering if anyone has taken this program before? I'm weighing the pros and cons and realize I really would love some insight into the program from current students/anyone familiar with it. Its 4 years long, total cost of $108K, 1000 clinical hours, and I was told by the graduate admissions coordinator that typically the clinical placements are in hospitals. I like that I get more clinical hours with this program vs programs that are 2 years with 540 clinical hours. But its so long! and SO expensive! (FYI I did my BSN in Canada where it's university is much cheaper). Anyone have any opinions at all about this program? Good or bad, anything appreciated. Thank you!

FNP OR ACNP?
Hi there, A little background about myself: Working as an RN for 2 years in acute care- specialty is a stroke/tele unit. Looking to pursue my MSN or DNP by next year or so. 1. FNP vs ACNP- Trying to get a better understanding of the FNP/ primary care role. What I understand- it is more of an outpatient basis, better work lifestyle? 2. ACNP- Has anyone ever gotten into a program without having ICU and/or ED experience? What are the hours like as an ACNP? How do patients get assigned to you? How stressful is the work? 3. DNP vs MSN - is one superior to the other? DNP will be 4 years long, classes every other weekend. MSN is 2 years. Will a DNP give you more edge over someone with an MSN when it comes to jobs? If someone could help me out I'd appreciate it! I've been hunting around linkedin as well to see if someone can answer some of my questions :)

Going to a Neuro ICU
Congratulations! This is completely off topic but- may I ask how you landed the position? I've been working in med surg/tele for about 13 months(10 months in one hospital, 3 months in another due to moving states). I'm really hoping to move to an ICU position, but every time I apply, I get rejected due to "lack of critical care experience". I have not joined AACN, and do not have my ACLS, yet. I would love if you can give me some tips and share your story? What did you do during your 7 months that made you stand out? How did you apply to the ICU position? :)
