Hello all,
I am about to return to school to start working towards my MSN. I was accepted into a really great PNP program and I'll be done in about 2 years. However, I'm starting to hear from other nurses that there is no future for NP's as they are being phased out and not really needed. I'm nervous because while I am still working PT, I don't want to waste 3 years of my life to become a PNP and not be able to use it.
Does anyone have any outlook on this situation. Thanks. I'm very nervous.

I haven't heard anything about "being phased out and not needed." It seems that every new nurse wants to be a nurse practitioner, so the market may be over-saturated in some areas. My friend couldn't find a job in our area, and ended up going to New Orleans to work. That said, if that is what you want, then go for it! Good luck.

If I were you, I would investigate the job market for PNP's before you begin the program. In my area, those jobs are virtually non-existent. You might be better off going for the FNP.
