Job offer?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello, all.

i was wondering if any of you can offer some advice. Here's my story?

im a new grad, BSN. Graduated in September, and became licensed in October.

i had an interview with a nursing director at a major hospital, and it went well. She really liked me, and gave me her card, telling me to call the next week. I did send a follow-up email afterwards, thanking her for interviewing me. I called this past week, and she emailed me back the day after I called and said that it was a pleasure meeting me and "hopefully" HR will contact me soon.

So, because she said that, I'm feeling like I got the job, but I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket. . I got rejected from two new grad programs, so my confidence is a little bruised. I'm still applying whenever I come across a position. If any of you are experienced in this department: does it sound very likely that I've got the job? I would think that if I didn't get the job, the nursing director would have mentioned that in the email.

also, she told me this on Wednesday, and it's Saturday now. I understand if HR hasn't contacted me yet, but by when should I call HR to check on everything if I haven't heard back yet?

thank you!

HR departments can certainly be slow; I wouldn't say that the lack of action on their part says "no" at this point. On the other hand, the job isn't truly yours until you've finished the first day of work. There are all kinds of examples that people here have given about seeming bait and switch offers, "really positive" interviews that go nowhere, and other variations on the theme.

Be cautiously optimistic, but don't stop your job searching quite yet...
