Job for nursing students

Does anyone have any good recommendations for jobs to gain additional experience? Can you get your CNA without going to school if you are a current nursing student?

After taking fundamentals, you don't need to go to CNA school. What they teach in fundamentals is above and beyond. That's what my friend did. All she had to do was pay for the exam and she got her license when she passed.

I would recommend watching youtube videos for the skills: Bed bath, making an occupied bed, blood pressure, height and weight measurement, dressing an elderly person with one immobilized hand, transferring an elderly person safely to a chair or wheel chair, safe ambulation, bed making, range of motion, feeding, changing a soiled brief, hand washing.

You've done some of this at fundamentals so you should be fine. You can always ask someone in your class who is a CNA already if you need extra help.

I do know that the local hospitals will let nursing students work as PCTs /CNA . You should check the hospitals in your town ,and if your lucky they might hire you to work for them as a nurse when you are finished with nursing school .

Check with your local hospitals. I live in NY and you don't have to be certified to work as an aid in the hospital because you are supervsed by RN's. My hospital had a 2 day classroom orientation followed by on the job training in the unit I was hired by. I'm so glad I'm working as an aide- it's hard work, but I can't imagine starting nursing school this semester without the experience.

This is the same boat I'm in. I'm applying to the nursing program in the spring and I am currently looking for a job that will be flexible enough and understanding of my school schedule. I have no medical experience and would love to finally gain some. I've been applying and attempting to get a job in the hospital since I was 19 and I've never even received a call back
