Job market with experience?

Just putting some feelers out there...I've been living in London the past five years but am looking to move back to the states later this year. Been working in tertiary-level NICUs since 2009. What's the job market like for experienced NICU nurses currently? And how bad of a red flag are sign-on bonuses for 2+ years of experience? Thanks! :-)

Hello! I think the job market varies greatly based on location. Are you open to any part of the states or are you focusing on a particular area? :)

I'm looking mainly at the east coast, primarily DC, but wouldn't rule out most large cities (although it would need to be a largeish city as I'm looking for a level III unit).

What a coincidence - I work in the DC area! I know of job postings for experienced NICU nurses at multiple level 3/4 units in the area. I would say the job market here is healthy. Happy searching. Let me know if you have questions :)

What a crazy random happenstance! I'll pick your brain a bit via PM if that's okay? :)

Sounds good! I don't think I have enough posts to initiate a PM, but if you can send me one please do!

Oh okay! You can't PM until you've hit 15 posts, I'll copy my questions here. Feel free to say as much or as little as you like given the public forum.

--What are good hospitals, and what are ones to avoid? I'm particularly looking at Inova Fairfax with its large unit and maternity center.

--Mind if I ask roughly what you make, and with what qualifications?

--Do you find it easy/medium/hard to live in the DC area on a nurse's salary? We're looking at DC because my husband is likely to be looking into think tank, non-profit, etc. sorts of positions, but I don't know really anything about the place.

Thanks so much! la9MFCKoIaKIlaHjVuttgx238A8l+oISTPknrAAAAAElFTkSuQmCC
