Job interviews coming up, advice anyone!???!!!!!

Published

I have a few job interviews coming up any advice would greatly be appreciated!!!!

Foxy, first of all... Congrats on landing an interview! I'm not in a place to give advice, but I will share my recent experience. I landed an interview on a behavioral health unit. I was extremely nervous as you can imagine. I went in with confidence, however. I sold myself.... Shared life experiences, nursing experiences, and training that I received. Then, I dropped the "BOMB". I shared that I'm in recovery, following the 'NA program', and that I have a narc restriction for @ least three months. The NM thanked me for being honest and said she would be in contact with me either way. I received a call from her the following week and offered me the job.

About a week after starting work, I had to complete some paperwork with the nm. She told the reason she hired was not because of my nursing experience, but because of my honesty! She then shared with me that she has been in recovery for 25 years! I can't help but believe that this has all been part of GOD's plan....

In recovery..... There is hope!

First of all, Congratulations Will and GOD BLESS, you know it was His hand in this process.:heartbeat

Next, I really believe the operative word in your post and your experience was SOLD...in fact, I smiled while I read your post, because I saw myself almost 2 years ago in my very first job interview in recovery, I was pretty nervous because I hadn't worked for about 9 months and it went exactly the same way. I really really sold myself!

I also stressed, that since am monitored (in IPN) monthly, I am much "safer" than the "average" everyday nurse out there...I was also very honest and stressed that I will work harder to prove myself...I got the job, too.

I have been working there almost 2 years and I can't believe how fast time has flown....I also can't believe I have been drug free for 2 and 1/2 years....and alcohol free for over 11 years...I never thought in my wildest dreams that this could happen.:yeah:

Roxy,

Much Luck with your Job search....Just be Honest and Earnest...all in good time

God Bless

No luck for me yet.:crying2: I do have another few interviews. Not sure how to go about sharing my experience. Anyone willing to share their experience to help me out

My first job in recovery was actually at a treatment facility. I was told about the job by a friend at an AA mtg. I was in an interview w/ the DON when she told me the medical director also wanted to interview me. She left the room and the medical director came in. After a few questions about nursing, he asked me what I knew about the recovery process. I told him that I was in recovery and felt like I probably wouldn't hear from them again. He asked me what step I was on and I told him that I was working on my 9th step--making amends. He thanked me and left the room to get the DON. They offered me the job on the spot, telling me they had been looking for someone who actually KNEW the steps and hadn't just read about them.

I stayed there for 2 years and in addition to my nursing duties, lead a couple of groups a week. This was 12 years ago and last year I got a friend request on Facebook. I didn't recognize the name, but there was a message attached which asked if I was the Hospice Nurse LPN who had worked at this particular treatment facility in the late 90's. This guy was one of the clients. He told me how I had affected him w/ my joy in recovery. After he left the center, he moved up north, went to college, and is now a staff member at a treatment center.

I'm wishing you much luck in your job search. :redbeathe
