Hi all,
Not sure where to put these questions, thought I'd put them here...
I have a job interview in about 10 days for an infection control practitioner position, wondering if anyone out there have any ideas of questions that might be asked that I can ponder. I've worked primarily OB for almost ten years now. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Related to the interview and job, it's in the same hospital where I've worked for past almost ten years. I know that they will ask me if they can speak to my current manager, and I really don't want them to...and don't know what to say there. I won't elaborate on why except to say that my manager has caused myself and many of my coworkers a lot of grief and unhappiness in the past few months. How do I go about saying no without making myself sound bad and/or negative? Again, any feedback would be appreciated...
Thanks in advance!

I would approach this situation like this:
"I am very interested in this postition for (all the clinical reasons why you are applying). I have worked for this hospital for 10 years and want to stay within this institution. Regarding references, I feel like (give the names of 2-3 people who have worked with you) would give you the best ideas of the type of employee I am."
I was in this situation a few years ago and used something similar to the above. Also, I did give them permission to talk to my current manager under the stipulation that they would talk with the other references as well. I got the new job I was applying for without any problems.
Good luck!

Wow! I can not imagine applying for a job in the SAME hospital and not automatically expect them to speak to my current manager.
I would not conceive of applying for another position in the same hospital without informing my current manager.
I did not know you could get another job in the same hospital without them talking to your current manager.
I know when you apply for a job at another place and if they are unable to talk to past employers they may not hire you for just that reason.
Do you really think even without permission they will not talk to your manager? Sooner or later this is bound to happen. After all what happens if they hire you? Your manager needs to know and need to know with some advance notice. Either way you can bet there will be talking between the managers.
What is more your employment record etc is there for this new manager to see. A hospital is a very small enviorment for one manager not to talk to another when they are taking away an employee from one and giving it to another.
Thanks for your feedback! I'm not quite sure what to do...but I have some time to consider it. I do have excellent references, who have actually worked with me for several years and know me, unlike my current manager, who hasn't spent a single clinical day on the unit since she's been there (2+ years), and I've been there almost 10 years. Unfortunately, it's the only place I've ever worked...
Thanks again...any further feedback would be gratefully received!
