JOB IN LI/Queens New Grad

Published

I graduated in May 2008 passed the Nclex about three weeks ago and starte job hunting then. So far i only had one call back- how long on average does it take from sending in resume to getting an interview? I called back to ask about the status of my application and keep getting told- the recruiter's are swamed and have your applicatin- does this mean I don't have a chance? Any tips ideas on how you got your job as a new grad recently?

thanks:nurse:

Congrats a1mom!!! Have you attended any nurse career fairs? There was one that just passed in tarrytown, ny BUT i do know that in september there's a huge one at MSG on 9/11, i think advance for nurses is giving it. I went to one a few months ago - can i suggest be there EARLY (like when the doors open AND to pre-register online for them). The one in NYC was packed and i swear some of the nurses looked "hungry" and acted like it too (literally knudging you away from the recruiter table to get ther "speak time" in). Anywho..lol.. the positives about those fairs are there are TONS of prospestive employers there ready to take on new grads. Bring tons of resumes and you get awesome goodies to take home with you. Believe me you will get call backs. Polish up your resume and dress professional. Good luck and tell me how it goes :yeah:

Congrats A1mom! I was told by a recruiter there is a deluge of resumes hitting recruiters in the City right now. It was suggested to follow-up with recruiters by phone and emphasize you already have your license.

The average time from resume receipt to interviewing to offer and then start date is probably at least one month if not longer, depending on available openings for new grads (checking references, background check, pre-employment testing, orientation schedules). It was also suggested from a recruiter that new grads have to keep an open mind to the area they want to work in.

I recently obtained employment and it took about one month from recruiter contact to orientation date. I also was very flexible about the hours I would work and the area I would work in.

Good luck to you.
