I am currently working as a cook in a restaurant at during my last semester as a student nurse. The job is taking away from my study time and doesnt pay squat. I'm looking for possible jobs as a student nurse that will give me some experience as well as provide some sort of income. I am new to the field and this degree will be my first. Not sure what options I have. Im pretty sure I need some sort of licensing for most positions.....any ideas???

Become a nurse tech in a hospital.
$$$ + Experience + Foot in the door when you need the RN job
If you are not already certified as a CNA/PCT, then you can wait until after your first semester of clinicals and then apply to become a nurse tech/extern. You'll be like a CNA but because you're a nursing student you get some extra perks. That's how it works here in GA. Plus, the experience is great.

I second the PCT job! Experience and flexibility :)
I am working now at my Nursing School's library. It is very nice because I can study on the job, borrow nursing books, hang out with other nursing students, print powerpoints for free etc. But I would suggest any job on campus, if possible. It will save you time and gas money. Plus you will see nursing instructors more and probably have more chances to see them/talk/network.
I would like to get a PCT job at the end of this semester, when I am done with Medsurg.

That sounds like an excellent idea to work at school, so you have time to study! I wish I could do that but I'm starting this PCT job soon and I don't know if I would ever have time to have a on campus job. Unless I cut down the PCT hours to part time. Either way, working at the library gives you sooo much study time. See, if they have work study options at your school OP.

Absolutely get a job as a PCT if you can! A lot of hospitals have programs specifically for nursing students, and the hours are usually very flexible. It is excellent experience, and the RNs you work with are often very willing to teach and show you interesting things if they know you are a nursing student. However, there will be no study time as a PCT! So if that's what you're looking for I would definitely look for a job in a library or dorm at your college.

Another supporter of getting a PCT job if at all possible. Hours are very flexible and the experience is invaluable! A lot of employers like to see PCT experience (or even CNA experience) for new grads. And honestly, I think a lot of the best nurses are the ones who worked as a PCT/CNA.
