Hello All, I have been lurking on AN for years while in school as well, helped me pass the CRNE and now attempting to do the Nclex soon (November)
Anyways, I am looking to move my family from Canada to Florida come June 2015. I want to move to Brevard county (Rockledge, Cocoa Beach, Merritt Island, area)
I want to apply for jobs there, but I was looking for input as to where is an ideal place. I am acute care medicine nurse, looking to bridge out possibly.
I would really appreciate any input as to where, which hospital is good to work.
I don't have any family in FL, just want to try something different
Thanks

Health First & Wuesthoff are the 2 bigger healthcare facilities. Health First owns like 4 hospitals & other clinics. Wuesthoff owns 2 hospitals & other clinics. I would look into those first.
Thanks for the info, I have been looking through the boards, just looking and have seen numerous times that BSN/RN's get paid ~$20/hr, is this correct? I am making over $100,000 here in Canada, I know I won't make that much but heck $20/hour! My motivation for moving my big family is endless summer and change of scenery, not motivated by cash, but I will like a little extra after bills
Thanks peeps
My base pay is $21/hr for a new grad. I get paid more since I work nights: $2.75 more from 7p-12a $4.75 more from 11a-7a. The scenery is great though. I love living here.
Is that at the BSN rate? Sorry for being snoopy

I am an RN, BSN in the Tampa Bay area. The job competition for nurses here is FIERCE. I interviewed at every single hospital in the Bay area. I eventually took a home health job just to get the experience for my resume. From what I've been told, the pay here for nurses in Florida is LOW compared to elsewhere in the U.S. What I get paid is robbery, but that's home health for ya. Good luck!
Hi there again,
I was wondering about a signing bonus? is that mainly for specialty areas? I can not wait to move, I think about it everyday lol and its about 5-10F here in Canada and 70-80F in Brevard areas
I notice that there is a hiring fair at the end of April (week of 27th) anybody going? I got a phone interview and hoping to advance to the next part. I and looking at the Palm Bay, Rockledge, Cocoa Beach area. Anyways I hope that I get to see some peeps

I lived in Viera and worked for Health First Cape Canaveral. I had about a 20 min. commute. I loved it. Wonderful community hospital with water on all three sides. You can look across the water and see Cape Canaveral and Port Canaveral and watch the cruise ships go out to sea. Not to mention rocket launches. The cost of living isn't bad, especially after the housing bust in 2008. The housing prices are recovering but there are still some good deals to be had. Your kids will love all the activities, too. You can get to Orlando and all the theme parks in under an hour.
Well I did telephone interview, kinda say it went well, got offered another interview at the "hiring fair" they recommended; med/surg respiratory unit in Holmes medical centre, any input as to what I can expect?

You have to consider the difference on cost of living. The cost of living in Canada is considerably higher than in Florida.
