Hi,
I am a fairly new graduate RN, less than a year of experience in labor and delivery and I find myself questioning my nursing field choice... I truly enjoy L/D, but it really hinders my experience level as a nurse. I feel torn between sticking with something I like or moving on to an area that can can provide me with a richer nursing background. My goal is to get my CRNP (not sure in what yet), so would it be wise of me to find a med/surg, neuro, OR, acute care type role? Any advice/suggestions are welcome!
Thanks!

I would complete at least one year, if you can transfer to another unit......with same employer.....that possibly will not look as bad......

Are you concerned because starting out in a specialty like L&D doesn't theoretically seem wise, or because you don't personally feel like it's a good choice for your future career goals? There are several advanced practice degree options for OB/L&D, if you truly enjoy the field.
Honestly, you have plenty of time to switch specialties, learn new skills, pursue an NP, etc. Give yourself some time to settle in. It's good to plan ahead, but you aren't limiting yourself by working in L&D for now.
