JHH 8 hour shift??

I heard from a reliable source that JHH is changing over to all 8 hour shifts (5 days/wk). This is based on a study that said that most critical errors happen in the last 4 hours of a 12 hour shift. Is it true that JHH is eliminating 12 hour shifts?

Last I heard (and I believe it's on the website) they offer a choice of 8, 10, or 12 hour shifts. I really hope they don't go to 8 hour shifts. I'm doing the rest of my clinicals there and now I'm thinking I'll apply there rather than Suburban. I live 45 min away though and only driving up 3-4 times a week is WAY better than 5! :/

What was your source? If its a reliable source why are you looking for confirmation on a website full of strangers?? lol!

I was in orientation there this weeks and that was not was told to us we (I ) will be able to work my 12 hours shift and that they may change to that later on in the not so far future... They realize by doing that that they will not be able to retain their nurse or have new nurse come to the facility if that is the case... I hope that doesn't happen for I will have to high tail it out of there.

Ok, thanks for the updated info.

The shifts are determined by management on each floor. The floor I work on uses a combination of 8's and 12's, while nurses I know on other units do only 12's. I haven't heard of anyone doing only 8's, but JHH is a big place, so you never know...

It does completely depend on the unit you work on. My unit is strictly 12hrs. No exceptions. I do know people on other floors who work just 8s. And I also know of floors that do 8s, 12s, and even 4s (to make up for those working 8s).
