Jefferson State Community College Pell City, Fall 2016

Published

This thread is for those who have been accepted or are hopeful to start Nursing School this Fall (2016) at the Jeff State Pell City campus. How many of us are on here?

Where is everyone going for your vaccines? My doctor told us we would have to pay out of pocket, and to try the health department...

Hi there! I will be attending the fall at Pell City!

I went to my primary Doctor today. They can pull your immunization records and fill out most of the information for you. I called the health department first but they will not draw titers. The titers are expensive.. Luckily I only had to have one titer, the chicken pox, it's $107 if you have to have the MMR it was quoted to me as $257. Since I only had one MMR on record (I have no idea how that happened) I chose to go ahead and just get the 2nd MMR today rather than pay over $200 for the titer

Thanks for the info! How much was the actual MMR shot?

I believe my copay was $10 per vaccine but not sure they were going to file everything on my insurance just in case they cover some of it and send me a bill for the rest. Health dept does not charge for most vaccines but didn't do titers so I just went on to my primary

Pell city. Here, Hi. I went to my high school, got my record, then after searching everywhere found out American Family Care does all the immunizations and the TB test. Out of the flu vaccine. But u can get that at CVS, Walgreens or anywhere. Cindy

I called the health department, and they told me they do not do vaccines for adults. So, I have to go to my regular doctor tomorrow, and they told me insurance doesn't cover the shots, except for flu. So, I have to pay out of pocket

So, it turns out that they wouldn't take my word for it when I told them I had had the chicken pox as a child. They drew my titers. Looks like I may not need any shots at all, because the flu shot is not in season. I was shocked!

On another note, I called the PC Bookstore and it looks like our nursing bundle will be over $800. Anyone know how to get them cheaper? The guy there said that he didn't know the actual names of the books that were in the bundle, but that the nursing instructors may want us to buy the bundle instead of the books individually. Has anyone ever rented books from Chegg? They are so much cheaper to rent...

Yes, but didn't the physical form state that we only had to have the flu shot if it was in season? My doc didn't have them, either...

How do you guys like the Pell City campus ? would you recommend ?
