Jefferson 2013 APW program

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Has anyone been accepted to the 2013 APW program at Jefferson in Philadelphia?

I'm going to live on campus but I'm not taking a car due to limited parking. Not to mention parking in the city is very expensive. I guess I'll be taking public transit.

Which residential are u looking into?? Ohh and we will have no problem with going to diff clinical rotations? Btw are u from the area? :)

Congrats asher and happiness! I am also planning to live on-campus. I put in for Orlowitz in January but I think they are deciding about housing now until like May 29th or so. I liked how close Orlowitz was to the library and the apartments were beautiful. So excited for our program to start!

thanks mk989! :) i'm really excited for our program too! so deadline for housing application is may 29th?? I guess I need to decide ASAP! Btw, did you go on the campus tour? how did you think about other residential halls? Like.. Martin Hall? So you can still apply for on campus apartment even if you don't have roommates? Thanks! btw are you from the area? :)

I'm from central PA. I'm planning on living in Martin because I don't think I'm going to be able to afford Orlowitz or Barringer since rent kind of expensive (although it's probably better than other apartments in the city). I figure if I live in Martin, I can use my loans to help with housing costs.

Cool! I'm planning on living at Martin hall too! I'm excited yet worried how transportation situation is going to be without a car. Did you guys finish all the paper works? There's a lot of stuff!! Haha

I am from Maryland just outside DC. I am pretty excited for the change though. I guess you could say I went on a partial tour. I never saw Martin, how was it? Orlowitz is pretty expensive, but less expensive then Barringer, if that doesn't work out I may go for one of the other on campus housing options. You can definitely apply without roommates (they either will put you by yourself or pair you up with someone).

I am in the process of getting everything done. My child clearance is through, and I have most of the medical stuff done (need to upload it to that confusing website). My background check is in the process of going through. It is quite laborious lol! Luckily we all still have some time.

So excited to meet everyone!

I need to get those medical and background check soon! also do you guys know if we need to get a CPR certification? I'm pretty sure we have to but i'm wondering if we need to get it done before school starts! Also.. I'm wondering if i should get an ipad during summer or just wait until school starts and see if i really need it. I'm looking for some scholarship opportunities but they are hard to find! how are you guys planning on paying for tuition?? :)

We definitely need to get CPR done beforehand. I did a class at a local hospital (BLS and CPR for Healthcare providers) but I believe you can search through the Red Cross search engine. I applied for financial aid/work study so I have that to help with tuition but I also applied to HRSAs scholarship (Nurse Corps). It will pay full tuition and give a living stipend in return for service after graduation (will hear if I get it come August though). I highly recommend looking at HRSAs scholarships they have a bunch of different types that are pretty cool and you can apply again (while still in school) if you don't get it the first time.

Definitely try to get the ipad before class starts. Not sure what generation we need though, will have to get back to you on that.

I started my background checks. I was surprised that the package is $95 + the $10 money order. I did't think it would cost that much but oh well. All of my financial aid paperwork is done and housing application is done. My doctor couldn't fit me in till June to do the physical so it looks like I'll be waiting on that one. I can't find the pre-requisite agreement form. I know there was a pre-requisite form that I filled out to go with my application. Are they the same?

happiness7 - congratulations on your acceptance! :) I received an email today from Jeff with a Nursing Program Info Guide - probably all of you have received it as well. There was a welcome letter, a booklist, and a lot of info about things that need to be done before the program begins in the fall. Check your inboxes! Looking forward to seeing everyone in the fall!

I just got the big email from TJU! So exciting and wow 22 credits! I am going to say this, even at the risk of sounding mushy/overly emotional lol but I hope we can all be like a close-knit family to get through this intense program. We should make some sort of facebook group (especially before clinical comes around) that way we can keep each other up to date about the program, studying, and figure out carpooling/public transportation buddies.

Also happiness I believe that was the form (the one you signed) and then of course once you're done your prereqs you need to send them final transcripts.

Again I am simply jumping up with excitement.
