JCAHO coordinators- need a sounding board

Published

I would be interested in communicating with anyone having the same headaches I do in keeping up with JCAHO, particularly the National Patient Safety Goals.

I'd just like to compare notes, process changes, etc. you have implemented in order to maintain compliance.

Anyone interested?

Thank you.

Hi, I'm a clinical nurse manager of a med surg unit expecting Joint Commission to come knocking on our door any day now. Has anyone used any games or contests to help prepare staff with the questions and info?

We were just surveyed....uggghhh. No really surprises on the survey other than the day they showed up...That was a surprise. They looked at all of the Patient Safety Goals.

This was the first survey that we had that included an engineer as well.We got dinged on pain re-assessment and the med rec form had some blanks.

Thanks-those are things we need to focus on as well.

I looked ahead at some other suggestions on another thread and saw the idea for "Joint Commission Jeapordy"-seems like a good one. JC Bingo was good too, but I don't think we'd have enough time to sit down to play that one!

On the ENA web site they had a JCAHO card that was pocket sized. It listed all the NPSG and what measures were in place in their ED to satisfy each goal.We did this in our hospital along with unacceptable abbreviations. It helps lessen staff anxiety knowing they have it in their pocket.

Thanks-those are things we need to focus on as well.
