Didn't see a thread for GBC January 2017 intake so I thought I'd start one who else has received an offer ?
Finally received my offer of admission to George Brown's Practical Nursing program for January 2017 on Tuesday and accepted today so I'm super excited :)
I was originally set on going to centennial because they had a flexible program which allows less courses per semester but slowly became turned off after accepting my offer by the school's lack of organization , lack luster tour and the struggle to get any information . I didnt even think I would get an offer for George Brown because of how competitive it was I remember being wait listed last year and being devastated so I'm really ecstatic! I was abit worried at first because of the first semester course load but GBC is much closer to me, I've had nothing but positive experiences when communicating with staff and just received and overall more positive vibe in the environment so they eventually won me over haha .
The only class they offer in the summer (sometimes) is sociology. Otherwise it's just classes a lot of people failed (Patho, Pharm). I think the grade requirement varies and is probably more a reflection on how you rank against your class (of those who are interested) rather than meeting a certain average as they can only take so many.
So if I start in January this year would it be possible to take a few classes this summer for semester 2 or opt out of my summer break to finish forth semester in the summer next year ? I didn't think classes ran in the summer for nursing . What is the grade requirement to do so ?also we can't use calculators in the math course ? What are some areas that would be good to brush up on ?
I'm not too sure on summer classes, you can make an appointment with a course counsellor though, and they could help you out.
You're allowed calculators in math class/tests (just not scientific ones). Honestly, the math is pretty straight forward, pretty much everything you learned in elementary school, at least for first semester. If you want to do some review though, I would recommend re-learning how to add, subtract, multiple and divide fractions, and although you will get a calculator, it wouldn't hurt to brush up on long multiplication/division.
To everyone who has been accepted congratulations!I'm planning on apply to Jan '18. I was wondering, if anyone could disclose there accepted averages! So, that I have a rough estimation of where I stand. Thanks in advance!
Hi there :) Good luck on your application. My marks in high school were:
12C English 90%
12C Chemistry 83%
Math12C - 96%
Math11C - 97%
Biology11C - 76%
It is a competitive program, but if you have an average of mid 80s or higher, I think you should be good. Even if with a low 80 average I wouldn't completely lose hope.
I did a pre-health program to get in I had :
Biology - A
Chemistry- B+
English - A
Math- B+
My gpa in total was 3.6 the first semester of my program it later went up after second semester but they only looked at my first semester marks before I got a full acceptance .
If you're coming in with highs school marks the criteria may be different though. Hope that help :)
Hey ! Firstly congrats on getting into GBC . I've completed one semester so far and I really like the school and am very happy with my decision . The teachers are great and you can tell they genuinely want you to succeed .
To rent books from GBC I believe it's done online on the bookstore website. Getting used books was also pretty easy want . Some classes you can get away with older editions of books also but I would ask the instructor before doing so
