Jacobi is an HHC hospital. As of June 1, 2008, all HHC hsopitals will be offering their nurses a flat salary rate of $66,000 starting for day and $72,000 for nights ($6,000 differential). They also offer Flex time, which is great if you are interested in overtime and a "flex"-ible schedule.

Is it true that with the HHC hospitals you can retire after working 20 years and still have full benefits? If true, must it be 20 years FT or can you work PT and still do this?

That seems to be what they say.. If you work 20 years at a city job (i.e. Cop, Paramedic, Firemen, City Hospital Employees etc..) you will qualify for a pension and thus would be eligible for retirement. Yet, affording the cost of living in New York is not an easy task when trying to survive on just pension money. Hence, why you have so many nurses working late into their 50's and 60's. Money is a good thing to have, especially in a city where everything is inflated.

Wow, I cannot believe HHC is steping up with the private hospitals. Just curious if BSN get more money? Thanks!
From what I understand, in most private hospitals, BSNs get 1-2K more on top of their salary, but city hospitals tend to have a flat rate for all nurses (ADN & BSN).
Granted, if you start with say an MSN and/or an NP or even with a substantial amount of experience in another hospital, they will compensate you for that by beginning your salary at a higher rate due to your having certain steps alloted to your contract.
Still, although the HHC is slowly starting to catch up with private hospitals, they are still on average a good 2-3K below their salary rates, but from what most will tell you, the benefits offered are usually better, in the sense that you tend to get full coverage for medical, dental, optical etc.. Where as if you work at a private, you will have to pay a premium for those services..
