Jacksonville U or Chamberlain???

Well, I was almost set with Chamberlain, but after talking with Jacksonville U, I want to find out more. Per unit is bit cheaper. $447/hr with Jacksonville, but looks like they require to buy books from them at estimated $225/course. After ANA member discount, Chamberlain is $510/hr. I think they come out to be about equal as far as the tuition.

I also think Jacksonville and Chamberlain are both equally generous with credit transfer.

However, the difference is that with Chamberlain, minimum of 10 classes consist of 7 nursing classes and 3 gen ed classes (that can be nursing related) Vs. Jacksonville's minimum 10 classes is all nursing.

Question I have is how involved are these programs? I hear they both have lots of paper assignments. I'm guessing gen. ed. class got little less papers and I hear jacksonville got "big paper" assignments from other posts. What is a "big paper" assignment? over 10 pages? Does Chamberlain has "big paper" assignments or just lots of smaller papers?

I'm not good at writing papers and this could decide my success with BSN so any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

I did the BSN completion program at JU and would not recommend it- they only "kinda" offer the gen eds- I had to go elsewhere to get stuff like humanities, international studies, and so on. It may have changed somewhat by now, I enrolled in 2004. However, I am paying less per credit hour for my MSN than I did for my BSN. Look around, find something local and hopefully cheaper. Whatever you do, make absolutely sure you understand what will transfer and what you will have to take.

I can't comment about the gen ed, I had my A.A. in something else which counted towards many of their requirements. The only class outside of nursing I had to take was nutrition.

I can say that you don't have to purchase books from JU. You can get the ISBN and buy them yourself on amazon. They also have CDs and study guides that are extra. The study guides are just the lectures on paper, that's it. And the CDs are the lectures on CD so you don't have to be online to watch them. If you're pinching pennies there's no need to buy these things.

do these schools have clinicals or practicums?
