Ivy Tech Indy-how do you like it?

U.S.A. Indiana

How in the world did all this time go by and I didn't know about is website?! :banghead:

I am a first semester student here at Ivy Tech-Indy in the RN program. It is very overwhelming, but except for a few issues, I like it. The program is challenging, and a few of the professors really care about the students.

What do you guys think? What are your goals for next semester? What have been the biggest suprises? The biggest disappointments?

I am in my first semester also, so we may have classes together :nuke:

What do you guys think? I like nursing school! I think I am getting my money's worth  I think nursing school is hard & challenging no matter where you go. It is not perfect or the best thing since sliced bread, BUT it is what YOU make of it, so I am MAKING the best out of EVERY situation while I am there...I am also a hopeless OPTIMIST! This has been the most DIFFICULT time of my college career, but I CHOOSE to be happy & positive! What are your goals for next semester? My goal for NEXT semester is to successfully pass it & I am confident...despite the rumors, that I will do that (see...I am an optimist, :wink2:) What have been the biggest surprises? HOW FAST it has come to an end!!! The biggest disappointments? Getting Bs! I wasn't, per se, a 4.0 student, but I expected to be smart enough to get As despite what everyone told me...well, they were right. Now, I am okay w/ Bs:bow:I am at ONE with them:lol2:

How about you?

Specializes in Student Nursing!.

I am in my first semester at Ivy, too! So I may have classes with both of you! I am liking nursing school for the most part. My classmates are great and most of the staff is alright. I have had some problems, but all in all, not too bad.

What about the check-offs? I hate the check-offs. So much stuff to remember and so little time to study. I have been cued many times erroneously. I do get the stuff done, but no one notices. Staring off into space, I guess.:zzzzz

Can't wait for next semester and glad this one is almost over. Pharmacology is tough, but I am going to pass. GPA is taking a hit though. I was a 4.0. Now I am a 3.9. I can live with that I guess. Now I just have to worry about OB/PEDS. I heard that the class teacher is difficult. I am not going to be a "whiny cry-baby," though. I will get though it. I can't wait to be a :nurse:.

Thanks guys! You are exactly right-this is all going to be worth it if I survive.

TraumaQueen, I know exactly what you are talking about! I too have been cued erronously. After being given some "space" this has stopped though. It is amazing how just one sheet of paper can change the whole playing field.

Still a 3.9 GPA after this must be great. I bet your husband or boyfriend (if you have one) is proud of you!

Monica, way to be the optimist! I wish I had your outlook. My goals at this point are to survive. That is enough.

Here's what I like:

a. They have one of the highest NCLEX pass rates in the state: around 97.5% average over the past two years.

b. Their tuition rates are very reasonable.

c. Some of their teachers really do care.

Here's what I don't like:

a. We are not allowed to review our exams as of this semester (since they went to computer based testing).

b. Sometimes the clinicals and classes seem poorly planned.

With luck I will graduate in July 2007 in their nights/weekends ASN program (ceteris paribus and the crick don't rise as we like to say out here in the sticks)! One of the things that I would like to "give back" after graduation is to help organize some sort of consistent/across semester (meaning that it would be open to nursing students in all semesters) test review/tutoring.
