Well, I discovered I enjoyed caring for people in 2001 while I was caring for my Nana. I didn't think I was smart enough to be a nurse, at the age of 19 I was still undiagnosed with ADHD and thought I was just dumb.
Moved south in 2008, got my CNA and fell in love with patient care. Got diagnosed with ADHD and properly medicated, and enrolled at my local CC.
Started taking pre-reqs when I was working acute rehab at a local hospital, slowly picked my way through all the science, psych and gen-ed classes, and then had 3 unexpected surgeries which took me out of the CNA game completely.
Last May I found out I was accepted to the local LPN program 5 days before it was about to start. I accepted a seat, and only 10 of us out of the 40 who started actually finished. It was accelerated and rigorous, but worth every minute.
Now I have my Associate in Science and am applying to transition to the ADN program. That will be one more year of classes and then I'll only need the nursing portion of the BSN classes in order to get that degree. Alternatively, I may try to find a program that will allow me to go directly to BSN from LPN.
Didn't mean to write a book! Love my AN peeps, y'all have taught me quite a bit over the years. :-)
