ive waited too long to take my nclex

Published

I graduated lpn school in 2011...I never took the nclex ....my father got bad and I made the decision to help him instead of pursuing nursing.....I find myself having some time right now and wondered if there was anyway to take it...In Illinois I am too late there is a 3 year window....is there any other states I could take it in? or any other avenue I could take to get the lpn certification? any help would be appreciated....thanks

Florida has a law that if you are 6 months from graduation you can't take NCLEX without a renewal course. I would call the BON for your state to see if that is the case there too because I don't know if any other state would let you take it being that far out and not a graduate of a state school. You can also call the school because they will know the regulations, when you take the test the first time it counts toward their pass rates, no matter when you take it so they benefit from helping you.

Even if you take it in another state, you may not be able to become licensed in your current state as you didn't meet their requirements. Best bet is to check with the BON.
