I've been selected as an alternate at CSU Stanislaus for Fall 2016?

Published

So I'm trying to get into the Pre-Licensure nursing program at CSU Stanislaus to receive my BSN in nursing and I just received my letter about how I've been selected as an alternate for the Fall semester of 2016. Is this a good thing? I'm not sure how to feel about this. My GPA isn't that impressive to be honest (I just calculated it and I hope I calculated it right). My science GPA is 3.0 and overall GPA is 3.2 (I wish I was smarter!). I had a score of 72% on the teas, but still managed to be selected as an alternate. What should I do in the meantime? How does being placed on the waiting list work anyways? Are those students required to reapply to maintain their place or something? I have no idea how this works. How should I prepare myself if I do get selected? Sometimes I wonder if I should take this path and whether I want to become a nurse or not.

Well, what number alternate are you? If you do not get chosen for this fall, you will have to reapply for spring. There is not much to do to prepare for being selected. The nursing orientation is a few days before the start of the semester and everything will be addressed during that time (blood titers, background checks, supplies needed, etc...) I think right now the most important thing you need to do is decide if you really want to be a nurse. Why start a program if this is not what you want?

I'm not sure what number I am. It doesn't state what number I am on the letter. Is there a way for me to know? I will do some thinking about my career path.

I would call the nursing program on Monday and ask what number alternate you are, they should be able to tell you.

Yes, I was thinking of doing that, too.

You know what, on the letter it says I've been selected as an alternate Alt 071 so am I #71 then?

Yes, that means you are alternate number 71. Have you applied anywhere else? Do you live in that area?

No, unfortunately I didn't. It costs so much just to apply already. No, I don't live in that area. It's about 20-30 minutes away from where I live. I don't know what to do.

Well, if you are interested in an ADN program Modesto Junior College application opens in May. They will choose the both the fall '16 cohort and the spring '17 cohort during that application time period.

What's ADN program? I should have applied for the one in Merced College :banghead:

Okay, thanks.
