Hello All nurses/nursing students,
Well, I need your help. I got an e-mail today from the Assistant Manager of Nursing Department saying that she can actually accomodate my request of job shadowing a nurse, after initially rejecting it.Which part of nursing should I tell them I am interested in so I will be around a nurse.Eg. Paediatics, General Medicine, Surgical, or Orthopaedics?
The things is, I am still not in any nursing school-not till I get my GCE O level results. Thus, which area do you recommend?
Thank You,
your help is deeply appreciated:)

Medical surgical has a wide variety of pt. diagnosis. That much I know.

I would say med/surg would be a good place to start. It is a good place to see many different kinds of things while shadowing. The floor I work on is a surgical ortho floor, with a lot of medical spill over... so you will see NGs, piccs, various types of ostomy (while maybe not your idea of fun, they are a sight to be seen), dressing changes, IV and foley starts, really just about everything all on one floor.
please I know I should be patient, but I'm just afraid that the hospital might forget about my job shadowing if I reply late. I need any advice , quick. Thank you! (:

I think the primary question is what are you interested in?
If I were in your place I would shadow Peds because I'm terrified of Peds and it would break some ice for me.
Otherwise any of the adult floors will give you a really good idea of what nursing is really like. If you are fairly indifferent try medicine or surgical. They are very general floors with a huge variety of patients.

I say whatever makes you interested jump into that... Each person has there prefrence. Good luck... Also Med Surg has alot to learn but follow your heart and do what you feel is interesting to you... Remember your job is only worth showing up to if you enjoy it
