IV stop times

Published

My hospital is now making us document the stop time of all IV piggybacks and IV bolus infusions- both outpt and inpt. I'm just wondering if other places are requiring this.

Yes for IV boluses. Everyone always just put one hour after the start time though.

If you currently do not do this, it is coming to your facility shortly. I guess, from a paper pushers perspective it is a wonderful idea. From a practical standpoint, I don't know how few patients you would have to have to get all these requirements done like they are supposed to be done. Pain relief in 30 min for iv, 1 hr for po, 30 min for one ivpb, 1 hr for another, 90 min for another, 3 hr for another, 8 hr for iv fluids or 12hr or 24hr or or or. Its enough to drive a person nuts.
