IV push - question

Now i know this may sound silly - but are there ANY meds out there

that can only be pushed through peripheral IV"s? In other words - are there any limitations to pushing through central lines?

I think in most cases you're going to find that it's the other way around. There are some meds that should only go through the central line and not a PIV.

As a general rule, the power injectors used to inject CT contrast cannot be used on any central access except for the new purple Power PICCs. Thus patients undergoing CT with IV contrast usually have to have a PIV.
