IUPUI (& other) Accelerated BSN (programs) Spring 2010

U.S.A. Indiana

Published

I've been posting under the Fall 2009 thread, and living vicariously (like previous posters) through the Ivy Tech threads (400+ and 900+ posts!).

I just keep wondering if there's anyone else out there who is waiting to hear back about the program at IUPUI, or any of the other accelerated BSN programs in the area--Marian University or Indiana Wesleyan University (or any program in Indiana?!).

If there is anyone out there who is waiting to hear about starting in the spring of 2010, it's nice to meet you. I just wanted to open this thread so we could share in the agony and excitement involved in waiting and share any pertinent or random information we might come across.

Oh, and Good Luck! :)

Specializes in ICU.

Unfortunately that's something new, so I have no idea. I would assume they are going to be pretty adamant about it since they posted it on their website nearly a year in advance, but I can't be sure.

Please let us know what you find out, as I would like to know in case anyone asks me the same question in the future.

Sunshine-

There are two GPAs, so to speak:

(1) Overall GPA from your first Bachelor's, which must be at least a 2.7, so you're fine with that, and

(2) Admissions GPA, which is the GPA of all the courses used to fulfill the pre-reqs (~65 hours, I think). This includes Micro, Physio/Anat. This GPA must be at least a 3.8. (Spring 2010 admissions had a cut-off of at or slightly above a 3.8) You'll have to do your own calculations for this one.

best of luck!

Does anyone know if the are lenient on completing the sciences two semesters prior enrollment? On the website, it says they must be completed by fall for summer start. I tried calling, but it's after hours and I was hoping for an answer tonight!

thanks

I know this question was asked a long time ago, but in case anyone is just trolling through the old discussions about IUPUI, I thought I'd answer the above question.

It's my understanding that you have to complete your sciences within the 7 years prior to application. You do NOT have to do them in the two semesters prior to enrollment -- two sememsters prior to enrollment is the latest that you can take them. For example, if you want to appy for the nursing class starting in the fall semester, you have to complete your science classes no later than the spring (winter) semester. You can not take any of your science pre-reqs during the summer session(s) immediately before the fall semester in which you hope to begin the nursing program.

Does Statistics have to be done before you apply? I am applying to both Ivy Tech and IUPUIs ABSN for Fall 2011 start. I will be finishing Advanced Physiology and Microbiology at Ivy Tech in the spring of 2011. But Statistics and Psy 310 I would have to take over the summer. I should be ok, right??

Yes, I believe you are OK. I am taking my stats class during my last semester of pre-reqs. I am pretty sure the advisor realized that when we were discussing my last two terms and she didn't raise any red flags. I'd still call the nursing department to double check.

I've been doing a lot of research on IUPUI's RN-BSN program. It sounds like a great option for when I'm done with my ASN at Ivy Tech, because supposedly all of the general education requirements can be completed online. I live in Lafayette, so Indianapolis is about an hour away from me. But Purdue University, which is about five minutes away from my house, does not offer an RN-BSN bridge.

According to their website, IUPUI's bridge program can be started in the fall, spring, or summer semester. Does anyone have any more information about it, or know how competitive it is?
