I've been working as a NA since 95 and, (with a ten year break due to health reasons) and recently got back to work for an AFH and I've never been certified, either. I am registered, though. I've been told that as of now, (2012), it's completely your own choice whether or not you wish to become a CNA from an NA-R. But, who know what will change in the future, though.

Also, congrats to you regarding the new job!
