  1. I joined up here in May of '11 Finally landed a job in spring of '12 as a CNA (3/12s) in my local htc Worked four hard but amazing months, then came down with pneumonia, and so did my 4 year old... Well i went to the doctor and got sick notes for a 3 day leave to get better, i faxed them to HR and even phoned in later to make sure they were received... HR said yes and approved the time off. Well after 3 days, my dd was getting worse and i had to admit her into the hospital, she was there for 7 days and luckily my grandma and mom were there for her so i could work. BUT... the 8th day was her discharge and i was NOT scheduled to work, i always double-check and even write down my schedule, plus i recieve a copy of it for my home... Well i guess some things got moved around and i was supposed to come in, but NO ONE called me... so i was fired for no call/ no show I called my boss and explained the situation but she told me HR tried to contact me and got no answer... i tried to appeal my dismissal to corporate but nothing could be done... I don't even know if they would re-hire me. UGH so i haven't worked in the medical field since and I know my heart is still in but i have a new little one now, and my hubby wants me to stay at home... Sorry so long, just had to vent that im crushed and want to pursue my career in nursing again, but things are in my way Anyone been in my situation (where it would be cheaper for me to stay home?) TIA ~Manda
  2. Thanks all
  3. I got a CNA job at my local west campus hospital, wanna know the best part? Im not even certified!! They hired me because I have clinical experience and my background is clean.... I will work 3/12s and they will work around my school schedule which starts in July. I start this Wednesday, and i am soooooo excited! :) My bff told me about the job but she hasnt been able to actually work because she keeps have allergic reations to the gloves so CNO sent her home I just hope she gets it together, she is taking the class now and i added her to my cell plan eeeeek! Wish me luck and i hope this is a job that lasts and gets my foot in the door and on my way to Nursing school! :heartbeat
  4. You guys aren't far from me, Im in Midland. We have another town close to us called Odessa, together we are known as the Permian Basin. We have 2 hospitals here in Midland, as well as 5 LTC facilities. Odessa has 3 hospitals and LTC as well, and there is also Lubbock (2 hours away) I am getting my CNA in the spring and hoping to transition to RN by 2013.... Good Luck!
  5. Congratulations! I hope you have a long and happy career! And good luck on your NCLEX
  6. Oooops i should clarify... I meant Spring of 2013
  7. Been in fast food/retail most of my adult life. I'm a "professional cashier" LOL. I took Phlebotomy back in 2001 (First day of class, believe it or not was Sept 11 2001) I believe I did well but was unable to find a job, because some of preceptors gave me good scores, others didn't. But oh well, on to something better. I will be starting a CNA course in the Spring. I wanted to do it this Fall, but i am getting divorced, so had to use my course money for that.... Once I graduate and have worked awhile, I plan on starting the RN program in Spring of 2012 :) Good Luck to everyone!
  8. ohh haha! I am sorry, upon further inspection of Google, i found this out. And i have no idea, I am going to take a CNA course this spring... Good luck to you though, I believe you will have to start from scratch and still take pre-reqs
  9. If im able to snag a job at a LTC facility. I can be in a mobile home within 6 months, i know its not very glamorous, but it will be my very first home, and I can't wait :) Good luck OP!
  10. Did you mean CNA? Whats a CMA?
  11. The main nursing home where i'm to do clinicals smells like pickles... i kid you not! My great grandma and and great uncle lived there until there death... and everytime i went in there, the smell would hit you at first but then you got use to it.
  12. Great post! You gave me a big confidence boost to not give up... Hope to see your graduation post as well :)
  13. Good Luck! You can do it, and we are all here cheering you on through those horrid pre-req exams! :redbeathe:nurse:
  14. Awww don't give up... follow up, follow up, follow up! Keep on trying and putting out resumes... Good Luck, you'll get something!
