I work really hard to engage the staff and let them know I appreciate their job. I was, back in the day, a "Nurses Aide". And even today I am not afraid to clean someone, toilet them or assist with a transfer etc. WE as nurses are not above doing anything. If I am busy I cannot, and I make that clear as well. I layout my expectations at the begining of the shift. I remind them of the ittle things- cgharge tags for irtems, fluid repelacement who needs vitals, etc and that I expect any pertinent inforamtion BEFORE the end of shift report.
My final words in report are "Lets have fun out there!". I work hard to keep my sense of humor. Somedays are a breeze, some days stink!!!! (literally)
But I thank them for their hard work and their team work.
It is nice when I come in and am told "I am really glad to be working with you tonight!"
Respect is earned, but also needs to be given as well.
