Totally depends on you. I drive 60 miles to work- and it doesn't bother me at all. At first...we planned to defiantely move. I've been doing it for 6 months now...and it isn't even an annoyance. The pay is enough to compensates me for time and gas...and the fact that I love my job makes it even more worth it.

hello everyone....
i was hoping some of you could shed some light on a delemia i've been having.
currently i work for a small community hospital emergency department about 50-60 miles from boston. i've been there approx. 2 years and although i love it there, conditions are making it harder to keep staff; myself included. now i know every hospital has there down sides. but i'm seriously thinking of going per-diem and looking for another hospital. there are many in my area, however now that my personal life is in order, i thought about traveling up to a "boston hospital". its always been my dream to work at level 1 trauma center/ teaching facility/ magnet hospital. my concern is...will it be worth the 2 + hour a day i lose to just driving. will i be compensated as far as pay/personal growth. is anyone doing that right now or has done it? i just feel if i'm going to do it, it has to be worth it. i know how it is to commute only because prior to nursing...i had a daily commute of 3 hours a day....looking back it was not worth it for the pay or sanity.
anyone who could lend some advise, i would be grateful.
my stats: ed 2 years acls/pals multiple shifts as charge nurse 8 years in ems pre-hospital
