Is it weird that I love wound care?

I was telling a couple of my friends the other day how I love doing wound care and dressing changes and they though I was a freak, like there was something really wrong with me. One made a joke that they would see me on nancy grace in the future. Is this because they weren't in the medical field or do any of you like wound care too?

I had a patient with a trach that would cough so forecefully secretions would fly across the room, and I actually threw up in his trashcan. :(

This happened to me during my preceptorship in my senior year of nursing... thank god I wasn't standing at the foot of the bed! I watched it fly about 5 feet and land at the foot of the bed... in the carpet (yuck). WHY DO SOME HOSPITALS HAVE CARPET!?! :uhoh3:

I like wound care too.

Wound care isn't my personal cup of tea, but I don't mind doing it. I could see how you'd find satisfaction in it.

Our charge nurse (in the ICU - believe me we got some of the biggest/nastiest wounds) recently got her Wound Nurse certification (several days of class, lots of studying, and a big hard test) and she's a great resource on our unit. Even if you didn't want to specify and be a Wound Care nurse, you could look at doing something like this down the road.
