Is This the end for my Nursing Path?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi there!

This is my first post. Long story short, I have three Cs for my pre-req sciences (Micro, Anatomy, and Physio) and frustratingly there always 1-2% away from a B. My overall GPA (including sciences) is 2.8. I still haven't taken the TEAS yet. Anyways, I wonder if there is still hope for me to get into a nursing program in California? I'm considering ADNs and LVN programs as well.

To be blunt and honest, I'd say probably not. Retake them all - even if it's one at a time - and get an "A" in each one of them.

I think, deep inside, you already knew the answer to your question.

I'm sure you know California is super-competitive. It's dog eat dog to get into a program.

Unfortunately, with the CC I go to I've already used up my re-take for a course. Thank you for your honest reply, I appreciate it!

You could try to retake the courses at another CC.

Also, you can try ADN programs out of state. I have actually seen on this site where somebody stated the GPA requirement was like a 2.65 somewhere in Texas! Can't remember where, but what do you have to lose? Take your time to research every ADN and LVN / LPN program within the US and see what you come up with. YES....I am serious....every program.

I know in California there is Unitek, which is a $$$ LVN and MA school. Not sure if they're in your area or not - AND only certain locations offer LVN. This might be your only bet. Check into them. The only reason I mention this is because this girl I had a class with did not have the best grades and got in with them.

I really do wish the best for you and hope you can make it work! Cali is tough! Schools turn away people with really high GPAs too. It is just tough..

@Mergirlc I finally figured out how to reply back!

Actually, that gives me encouragement because that's exactly what I'm doing right now. So far the LVN programs are what I'm going for since I qualify for it more than the ADN programs. There are several ADNs that didn't have a set GPA for the pre-req sciences so that gives me hope. With all 3 C+ I end up with a 2.3 GPA ?

And after your first post, I found a list of colleges out of state that I'm going to look into more! Thank you!

No problem. I think LVN will probably be the easiest for you to get into. The only downside is the $$ for this type of school. Definitely check out Unitek. They actually have some very good NCLEX Passing rates from their LVN schools. Unitek is mainly in Northern Cali w/ a campus in Bakersfield, I believe.

Good luck to you! I hope you can make it work! ?

Take the prerequisites at a website called “portage learning “ (Google that ) through Geneva college. It’s 784$ a class including the books and the classes/ labs are set at your pace. I took three science classes in three weeks. And most of not all university accepts those credits.

you got this !

@Yazmeenbp Hi there! Thank you for your reply ? I've already completed the three science prereqs (Micro, Anatomy, and Physio) but unfortunately didn't get the grades I wanted. Always 1-2% away from a B (and my professors don't round up.

But that's amazing! Three science classes in three weeks. I couldn't handle juggling micro, anatomy, and physio all at once!

Thank you for your support!
