assuming that is the money I worked and saved for.

if you can't get in anywhere else and you feel you have no other options then do it. just don't slack off because its costing you a lot

One sentence: the government makes money off of student loans.

Hello EllaBella1, could you tell me what state university this was?

I was going to pursue the same route, and ultimately decided on a local community college's accelerated ADN program. In my opinion, yes, ABSN is a complete waste. You cannot work at all in those types of programs, you will die. Also, in the time it would take me to graduate from an ABSN program, I will have both my ADN and be halfway to an MSN (one year RN to MSN program I found online), because the ABSN programs around my area are mostly two years long as opposed to my ADN where it will take me 15 months. Believe it or not between the two degrees I'll be spending 25% of what I would have completing an ABSN program. However, you must consider where you live, because some hospitals will not hire new grads without their BSN or make them sign a waiver stating they will obtain it within 3-5 years. Additionally, you do not complete a practicum with an ADN program traditionally, and you often cannot complete a nurse externship, if you are interested in a specific field such as ER or ICU. But then again in an ABSN you probably wouldn't have time for an externship anyway. There are so many better things you can spend that money on. The availability of RN to BSN programs is amazing, and I think it would be silly not to take advantage of that.
