Is an RN student eligible for NCLEX-PN after the first year of school?

Nursing Students General Students

Hi Everyone,

I just started an ADN RN program in Southern California. There are rumors floating around that RN students can take the NCLEX-PN after their 1st year of nursing school, which allows them to work as an LVN during their 2nd year. Does anyone know if this is true?

Thanks,

Tom

It depends on your State BON and your school. I'd check with the BON first.

Tom, Curiousme had good advice, however.....

lots and lots of nursing schools are like this. They are called "ladder" programs, and I am attending one. I will be taking the nclex-pn in the summer after my first year, and then working as a lpn whereever I can to generate some $$ to pay for 2nd year. I don't expect to work much if at all the 2nd year because it's demanding, and I don't know if I want to spend my teensy bit of free time working.

So, check with your school. This information you request is part of the information on our school's website, so just go there and check that out if you haven't already.

Yes check your BON. NY used to do this but stopped recently. You must complete your program and take the RN boards now.
