Is it REALLY possible to quit my job and go to school full time??

Published

Hi there everyone out there, thanks so much for reading my post. I have been in the process (for the past year now) applying to nursing programs. I currently have a BS degree, and at 39 have decided that I TRULY HATE what I do for a living! (graphic designer).

I am noticing that MOST nursing programs want for you to quit your full time job and take out loans in order to focus on school...(which I don't have a problem with), but can REALLY borrow enough to live off of or do most of you find that you have to work as well?

Just wondering...I haven't gotten accepted into a program but I am doing my best to plan ahead!

Thanks so much!!

YOU GO GIRL! I couldn't be MORE impressed with your approach to this (and what a fantastic boss you have!!)

You are so right, with God's help we can accomplish ANYTHING!

He wouldn't take you this far only to leave you hanging...right?

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!! :)

By the way I'm also in the NOVA area so I KNOW how expensive it is.

Oh really?!

Which school are you going to, and what do you think about the program?

(it's nice to actually have someone in the area!)

With your background especially I think you could definitely manage schoool + work. You can get any remaining general education out of the way before you start and you can get all the science and other non-nursing stuff done before you start. That way you can focus on just the nursing curriculum. Most the students in my class have jobs and kids and are making it work. It is tough but you'll still be a RN in the end and with a lot less debt!

It depends on the program you're interested in. I'm going to do an Accelerated BSN and they recommend absolutely no working. Considering that it is an 11 mos program, I really don't think I'll have time/energy to even try looking for a job.
