Hello everyone:)
I have had nursing in my mind for a long time now. I was aCNA for 2 years , and really enjoyed it. I loved my residents and felt good about what I did for them everyday. All of my prereqs are done, and now it's just a matter of getting accepted to a program. I did not get in last year, and have been rejected by 3 schools so far for this year:confused: Its just so competitive! I am starting to feel so discouraged. Not from the rejections, but from what I have read about the burnout, disrespect, stress, and nursing not being "worth it" on this site. I know this is a place for us all to come and share with each other, to vent, and to connect with people in that same situations (which I think is GREAT and I really love it!) but it really does make me wonder. In addition to that its said there no jobs out there for us once we are finally done...its scary! I love the idea of caring for people and its what I want to do, but it seems soooo many nurses feel disrespected and over worked which is not what I want from my career. It never occurred to me until recently that as much as I wanted it, nursing may not be "worth it" in the end...
So, to all of you nurses out there...what do you think? I know everyone has bad days, weeks, months and this is where you come to vent, and maybe that is what I've been reading day after day...but overall, is nursing as a career make up for the heavy responsibility, disrespect, stress, etc?
Gone are the days of degrees. The reality to your question is deceptive. Check these facts;
1. Your anatomy must not be more than 5yrs old=disagree
2. You have to have high gpa=disagree
3. It is highly competitive=disagree
4. Entrance exam= disagree
5. Must take tsi even after college hours attained=disagree.
Listen ppl, education has lost its root gradually. On an average it will take the average joe 8 to 9 years to obtain a bs in nursing. This is beneficial to whom? Of cos the schools right! Why wouldn't nursing be rigorous when is very profitable to schools and bon. Even after you cross the barriers and gain admission, how many students actually understand the word "competitive"
Meaning you can handle 15 hours of critical thinking course without complain. I bet only 40% of students graduate unlike the bull crap they write on their school site. 24-26 dollar an hr new grad. 3-4yrs experience 5 dollar more. Home Health 45 dollar but few hours. Work field; expose to physical and psychological stress of intense magnitude. Expose to med errors and legal lawsuit. You must have some passion indeed.
If you love helping ppl why not do volunteering hypocrite. If there is shortage of nurses like they proclaim, why do schools make it difficult? Profit of course. How many employers employ new graduate these days, I wonder!
Do you think students who failed entrance exam or nursing school are not intelligent? Think again.
Let's see nurses who practice in the 60-80s. Lots of them were certified through apprenticeship in hospitals. Oh! I guess they were incompetent right? if society has shortage of nurses, is educational institutions really making it encouraging for students?
When education becomes a business model, it lost its integrity and value. Privatization is a mess. Open your eyes ppl.
