Is there a nurse shortage in Victoria?

Hello All!

I'm Maria, been reading this forum for a while and feel the need to ask a question...

I'm a UK registered and qualified Mental Health nurse.

I've been trying for about a month to get a job offer in Victoria, I've got lots of extra qualifications and meet or exceed the requirements of the jobs that I've applied for.

Despite promises, none of the agencies or hospitals have got back to me. I keep reading about the shortages and there are lots of positions advertised. I've even turned down two offers of promotion in the UK because I thought I would be in Oz before long.

Can anyone please shed any light on this?

Hi Maria

While I can't really comment on Victoria specifically as I work in NSW, I do know that in general Australia as a whole has a shortage of RNs.

It has been my experience applying for positions in Queensland, that the recruitment process is drawn out, convoluted and no-one keeps you up to date on progress, so don't think you are alone.

I was so annoyed with that lack of professionalism I didn't end up going to Queensland. Also keep in mind that NSW RN payscale is higher than any other state (just in case you decide to look elsewhere for a job).

All the best for your move to Australia.
