Is this normal? Or even legal?

Published

Hello, i just finished my last class in the rn program at ecpi / mci virginia beach. When we were halfway through the program our school made it a requirment to pass a kaplan secure predictor with a 70. Even though when we signed up this was not part of the program. So we all sat down to take the secure predictor and instead we see Exit chc, not a secure predictor. We take the exam and our class has a 100% fail rate. Now we are all debating if we should get an attorny or what we should do. Is it legal for the school to change cirriculum mid program? Is it legal for them to even given us some random version of a made up test?

i could use any advice here. We have to pass a predictor to be able to sit for the boards and only get two trys and we are kicked out.

thanks

What does your student handbook say about the school's policies? It's common for the school to have included a statement saying something like they reserve the right to make changes to the curriculum, policies, and requirements at any point.

Often these kind of mandatory screening test policies are the result of the school being in trouble with the BON for too low an NCLEX pass rate by the previous class(es), and the school is mandated to do something right away (at least a temporary fix). If the BON tells them they have to do something now, they don't really have a choice. Did the last class that graduated from your school do really poorly on the NCLEX? I would guess that the fact that your class had a "100% fail rate" on the Kaplan exam suggests there are some serious issues with the program.

Our schools pass rate is over 85% which is not bad at all, the highest in the area here in virginia beach. Our student handbook says that we are to take a secure predictor with a score of 70% or higher, when we sat for the test it was EXIT CHC not a secure predictor. Also the class before this final class the president came in to our class and basically forced us to sign a statement saying we acknowledge the new updated handbook saying we have to have a 70% on the predictor

Can you explain some of these terms so those of us who are not involved with school can understand better?

Sounds like you could use some legal help, BON help. Make all students get involved. Let no one sit on the sidelines and later profit from you taking action.

Best wishes, sorry can't help more.
