If it is a right, then we have some work to do. If a privelidge, you get what you can pay for, right? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

If someone pays for your healthcare, they should have a say in the care you do (or don't) receive.
So when you make a claim on your health insurance , do you want another of your insurance companies premium payers , to have a say in what care YOU receive ?

They already do, they also bought into the health benefit system that had clearly defined benefits and exclusions.

I believe it should be an unalienable right. One of the basics services a human should get
No! my insurer sets the parameters of the policy , NO OTHER POLICY HOLDER has input upon the care I recieve , as authorized by by insurer .
As a upto date payer of premiums to my insurer , I can't remember the last time my insurer asked me for input as to whether John or Jane Doe policy holder should recieve a particular benefit the policy covered , can you , remember the last time you had such input ?

they already do. it's called your employers benefit package. For example:
my previous employer used Anthem BC/BS and they did not have an obesity rider for gastric bypass. my current employer uses the same company, but one of my collegues was able to get the surgery because my current employer has the rider. So they do absolutly have a say in what care you receive and they also pay part of the employess premium...

your employer is the "other" policy holder that sets the parameters for what care can or cannot be received in your plan, unless you have an insurance plan for which you are the only policy holder and not under your jobs plan. so it already exists. that is why you are assigned a group number on your insurance card along with an id number. the group number tells the insurance company what is included and excluded for your particular employer's group. they are able to buy or exclude certain riders and choose your co-pays too. that is why you may have the same insurance company for something and pay a different co-pay as someone else or not be able to get certain services that someone else may be able to get.
Katie5, what side of the fence are you on? Like education, basic healthcare is a right that only benefits us all.
i know this response was directed to someone else, but i personally work in community health and have formed an opinion based upon my experiances. i became a nurse because i wanted to help people. it breaks my heart when i have someone with an ailment that is not covered for certain things that i know they need yet i have someone else who gets everything needed for their care with the exact same ailment.
i have so many patients that end up sicker because they may not have the mental capacity to become "well to do" but works just as hard as most of my more wealthy patients if not harder and because of this, they dont have the money to buy the things they need. i breaks my heart everyday. i also have several veterans who were disabled in war and now cant afford there basic medications. is this far? this is just my opinion and only one of many people but as a Nurse, i would love nothing more than to be able to give everyone the same type of care regardless of how rich or poor they are.
so me i think it is both a right and a priveledge. the reason i say this is becasue i dont think we should toss people to the wayside or give them less care if they are poor. in my opinion, most of the people who feel that they have some sort of entitlement and abuse the system are the rich, not the poor. the poor people seem much more grateful for the care received. and if there is anyone who would know it would be me because i am a Home health Nurse and go into million dollar homes as well as homes in the projects. my poor patients have much better attitudes and are more grateful. the rich ones think that you are their maids and that they can treat you any kind of way.
Again no . My employer chooses the policies from the insurer , that they wish to offer me . once I have chosen the policy I desire , from them or another source . No one else has influence over the care I receive , so my question to MistaV still is valid
that's my point, "your employer chooses the plans they offer you". you can only choose from the plans they offer you or you are forced to find it somewhere else, which is very expensive and most people cant afford that. that was the point i am trying to make. they DO have a say in your health care
MistaV stated " if someone pays for your healthcare , they should have a say in the care you do ( or don't ) receive " . As policyholders we all share in the cost of each others health care , so a logical conclusion from the statement is that as I am paying towards your healthcare claim , I should have a say in what care you recieve .
So yes whilst you are shopping for policiies , those options are effected by the whole pool of potential policyholders .Which is as I understand it the point you are making .
Once you have a policy NO other indivdual policyholder can effect the care you will recieve per the terms of the policy .
So the question I posed to MistaV stands unanswered ie. do they want other individual policy holders to have a say in the healthcare they recieve ?. As they appear to be advocating when / if the present uninsured are covered by the present healthcare reforms .

An "unalienable right" is NOT something someone provides, they come directly and exclusively from God or nature, and NO one can take those rights away.
Here is a quote from William Blackstone to help you better understand it:
"Those rights, then which God and nature have established, are therefore called natural rights, such as are life and liberty, need not the aid of human laws to be effectually invested in every man then they are; neither do they receive any additional strength when declared by the municipal laws to be inviolable. On the contrary, no human legislation has the power to abridge or destroy them, unless the owner shall himself commit some act that amounts to forfeiture." ~Wm. Blackstone

Are both true!
Healthcare is a RIGHT!
If you refuse healthcare to ANY, you could not be considering human been!
Humans are to help, care, protect not to destroy lives!
Healthcare is a privillege NEED TO BE!
Because I worked for my money, hard and I need to have the privillege to CHOOSE, based on my money .....my doctor.
I don't want that YOU to give me one, I could choose one, pay one, the best one if I want too, the best medications if I want too. I will choose what I want not what you tell me too!
