Gotta question - I am an RN, and have been since 2004, including 1 year as a case manger for hospice/home health. Before that, I was a paramedic for 7 years. Before THAT, I was an aide for 2 years.
Recently, I have really hit a career slump. I am completely burned out and so sick of the system that we have to work under, and hate to see patients suffering because of [evil]insurance companies [/evil]and lack of nurse staffing. I took a year off and did some part-time teaching, and I still do not want to go back. I have had a terrible time finding a day shift job (single parent), plus right now, I am competing with all the new grads.
An attorney that my paralegal mom works for is offering to hire me full-time to help him; he does alot of personal injury cases, plus he is picking up more and more medical malpractice cases. This is a stable, professional guy that my mom has worked with for about 10 years. And it is not I-stubbed-my-toe-at-WalMart-and-now-I'm-impotent personal injury cases...he gets HUGE settlements on a steady basis (which he is very generous with). He does a fair amount of nursing home neglect cases. He's always calling me and asking my take on stuff anyways; guess I should have billed him!!
He took on a new RN/attorney about a year ago, but it hasn't worked out so well. The guy has limited experience in healthcare, costs the firm alot of money, and to quote my mom, "He has the personality of a box of hair", which makes the clients uncomfortable.
I would be doing alot of receptionist-type stuff (answering phones, etc.), but I would also be talking to clients and coordinating their care, reading charts, explaining "medicalese" to the attorney.
So, I am asking you guys who have done this sort of thing before; is this a lucky break that I should pursue, or am I getting ready to step in serious doggy-do?

If you are currently not employed then why not take the chance and give this job a try. Its not like you'll be leaving a job you already have to take a chance on something new. If it doesnt work out then you can go on attempting to find a different job. Personally I think it sounds like something I'd love to do.
My therory on things like this is to weigh the pros and cons. Like I said..if you said you were leaving a job you already have to go and give this a try then I'd think twice about it because you'd be giving up a job however since thats not the case then I say if it seems interesting to you then try it out......better to have tried then to not try and always wonder if you should have.
