I just talked to CCTC about doing some traveling in Cali.I wa offer free housing and and some other things. What got me was that they offered me $32 dollars, 20 of which is the base pay and the rest is including the meals and all this other stuff they put in. I currently make almost this much here in TN. Is they getting over on me and what should I be expecting? Also, I am a Level 1 Trauma ICU RN and this was for a RN position in Fountain valley.
Does any one have any suggestions?
Thanks

If they are offering $32/HR & Housing than that sounds like an allright deal. You have to remember that "Nothing's Free" so if they are paying your housing you are really making closer to $42/HR (depending on how much the rent cost).

I'm considering moving to that area next spring, as that is where my grandkids live. I have checked into Fountain Valley as permanent employment and have heard pretty good things about the ER. I have also checked into housing and a one bedroom apt in a decent area is about $1400/ month. That is just rent and of course does not include utilities, so use that as a reference when thinking about salary. I am going to have to make more than $40/hr to make the move worthwhile based on the cost of housing. Good luck. It is a beautiful area.

If you find your own housing, then they will knock it down to like $25/hr. Then you need to know how much per week they will give for the housing stipend and how much weekly for Meals and Incidentals. That changes per area. Then do the math and see if it is worth it to you. Remember also, if you work extra, it is at that $25/hr rate. Or you take their highest offer of $ per hour and let them find housing. It is up to you, whichever is more convenient. At the lower rate you have tax free income. In the end it is the same, just depends on whether you want the government to see you made $50,000 or $100,00 (for example).

20 an hour plus per diem of about 7 plus housing is about right. unfortunately.

okay, at the risk of sounding anal; here goes
If $20/hr is your base pay, and $12 of the $32 is your per diem, then you are only getting taxed on the 20/hr. The other should be tax-free.
$570 ....... 20 x 36 = 720 (-22% for taxes depending on # of your deductions)
+ $432 ....... 12 x 36 = 432 (not taxable)
$1002 ....... take home /week (+ free housing)
But make them spell it out for you. The terminology they use when making offers gets confusing. Different recruiters use the same words but with different meanings, depending on the "jargon" of their company. It took me forever to figure out what the "blended rate" of pay was. (Until the next person said it, and meant something completely different.)
Hopefully, some of that made sense:confused:

Sharmaine, $32/hr is not bad at all if they're providing your housing/you're taking the stipend.
IF that $$ includes your housing stipend, then you've been duped!
GAV, yes that includes housing and all.
