Dear Nurse Beth,

I am starting a BSN program. please advice if worth it? In terms of job opportunities and level of stress thx.

Dear Starting BSN,

A thousand times Yes. It is worth it. Not only that, it's basically becoming required in many hospitals.

If you look at job postings anywhere, you'll see BSN required for almost all non-bedside positions, and also for more and more bedside positions.

I get so many letters from ADN RNs who are getting up in years and looking to leave the bedside. They are not ready to retire but they can't face the physical demands of bedside nursing any longer. They want to know what non-bedside clinician jobs exist for non-BSNs. The answer is, very few. It makes me sad and I wish they had written in much earlier, like you are doing.

Good luck in your studies, and hang in there. You are doing the right thing. Getting an education is investing in yourself.

Best wishes,

Nurse Beth
