Is every nursing program the same way?

Nursing Students General Students

Please let me know if I am in a unique situation or not. I am at a University which will end up failing almost 60% (about 30 out of 55) of its woman/child (maternity ob) students this semester, several of whom this is their second attempt. Is that about the norm, or is it high or low? I really have no idea, but am curious.

My school has what appears to be a 50% drop rate. Some drop, and most are dropped if they can't achieve a certain average by the semester's end. My class started with around 65+ plus people, and now it has dwindle down to around 40 in my 3rd semester. We are faring a bit better than our previous classes though. I think the drop rate has a lot to do with the amount of material covered in a short amount of time, and some external factors (kids, work, etc) that some students have difficulty balancing along with our demanding school requirements. I wish it weren't this way, as I've seen a lot of friends come and go, but I suppose that is the nature of our program.
