I live in the metro Altnata area. I really want to work in a correctional facility. Will they hire a new LPN?

When I graduated from LPN school in 2006 I got hired right away at Gwinnett County Dentention Center...Pay was pretty good...I left there bc I went back to school for my RN...but as far as I know they do...There were actually 4 girls from my program that worked there right after school..Good Luck

I assume thats male nurses for male inmates and female nurses for female inmates?. A friend also said that his corrections system in Fla. is looking specifically for male nurses. ( for obvious reasons ). How is it in the Gwinnett system? Thanks.

I took care of all inmates...male & female...I never felt scared there are ALWAYS deputies with you...It was a very interesting job...I worked in the infirmary and sometimes intake...I worked at night so I was basically the emergency room for the inmates...Are you thinking about applying???

I'm considering it. It seems to be a somewhat difficult position to get. How are the bennies?. Is it a depressing place to work? Stress level?. Thanks!!

I didnt think it was depressing at all...Sometimes sad...I got the job the day I interviewed...It was stressful at times...I was a new grad right out of LPN school and was trained for 2 (12)hour shifts and then was on my own...So I def had to use my critical thinking skills...There were 2 nurses in the intake section but one was a new grad like myself and the other was experienced...But I was alone in the infirmary...They may have day time positions open and there are lots of people on staff then...There was also on the on call doctor who was very nice...

I thought that there was only one nurse so I assumed the workload was heavy. it's good to hear that you have some help. I'm used to Govt employment, part of the appeal for me. I'll continue to do more research. Thanks again for the replies.
