I was wondering if there is a book of general nursing (or just general medical) case studies? I'm working on my 6 week internship after finishing all my ABSN classes. The other day a woman came in with rectal bleeding. The attending asked me what the woman's situation was, and then said "well, what do you think is going on?" I was actually really surprised that he asked me, and I made a joke "this is my third day, I can't remember my own name". Luckily he laughed.
Anyway, I would love to find a book that gives a patient's symptoms, then goes through a diagnosis, medication and treatment. All the textbooks I have from school are pretty abstract, hyperexamining one condition but not really seeing the whole patient. My review books are good for basics but again don't really reflect an actual patient.
Does such a book actually exist? I'd be open to reading maybe some sort of pre-med book too if there were one.
Thanks!

I don't know of a book, but I subscribe to the email MedscapeCME that sends you weekly case studies. This weeks was on a 26 year old man with abdominal pain.
Here is the link:

Maybe you can find the site useful. Good luck!
Sand Dollar...that's great, I found this case on Angina, which is really helpful:
Log In Problems
I'd love additional resources like this though, if they are available. Sowinsis, that book looks interesting. Have you used it?
Additional resources would be great.

Clincal Applications of Pathophysiology by Dr. Valentina Brashers. I used this throughout NS and it is excellent....
Clinical Applications of Pathophysiology, Valentina L. Brashers, Textbooks - Barnes & Noble
Dunno if this is the type of thing you're looking for but, here is a write up from Barnes and Noble:
Synopsis
This practice-focused review guide and workbook covers 27 of the most commonly encountered health problems to outline the connections between pathophysiology, assessment, diagnosis, and management, with an emphasis on the clinical use of pathophysiologic concepts. Each chapter includes case studies to illustrate the application of pathophysiology principles to clinical situations with questions relating to patient history, physical examination findings, lab and diagnostic studies, therapies, and follow-up care. Each question is designed to promote clinical reasoning and a deeper understanding through application of the concepts presented. Information on differential diagnosis is included.
