Hi all,
for those who are unfamiliar, PCCN is the equivalent of CCRN certification but it is geared towards step-down and tele nurses. (Adult Progressive Care Nursing Certification.) It's an AACN cert that you test for, and something I would be very proud to achieve.
Are there any PCCN nurses here? What did you think of the test?
I am looking into the study materials available on the website- has anyone purchased any of it? I'm particularly interested in the DVD material, if anyone has anything to say about it.
This is a link to the available materials for anyone else who is interested: http://www.aacn.org/wd/certifications/content/pccnstudyresources.pcms?menu=certification

Hey There!
I'm PCCN certified and have been for over three years now. When I studied, i actually used the ACCN CCRN Dvd'd (because It was cheaper to borrow than buy PCCN), I went to a two day class PCCN review, and used the PCCN Certification Book by Brorsen (great book, worth it to purchase). I studied for a good six months before taking the exam. I personally felt the exam was harder than the NCLEX which I had taken!
Good Luck!
thank you so much for the reply! i nearly ordered that book actually. I ended up getting the david woodruff lectures on MP3 because i really like his youtube videos. liking them a lot so far. but thank you so much for the insight, if i need more material i will go for that book.

I was thinking about ordering that book! I'm currently using the Pass CCRN! book but studying the stuff pertaining to the PCCN. I like to use the CD which has a lot of practice questions on it.
I have been studying for awhile, then I stopped for a few months and now I'm starting to pick up again...I don't feel ready to take it, though. My goal is to have my certification by the end of this year or early next year.
Ginacat, how are David Woodruff's DVDs? I was also looking into those but didn't want to pay all of that money for them...
Hey ! I think they are good but I don't see them as being my only means o studying.
Sorry sent it too soon. It's like 12 hours of audio which is excellent, well explained and keeps my interest. But I know I have to do reading besides it. Because I want to know at a greater depth. It's good for me personally because I needed the motivation/ guidance. If you're doing well on your own save your $. You can check out ed4nurses on YouTube and get a good idea of what the discs are like.
Have you (or anyone else) tried the PCCN audio review course offered through AACN?

Thinking about purchasing it but I'm not sure. It's cheaper than David Woodruff's CDs, too.

I'm PCCN certified. The only one in my hospital. I used David woodruff and the AACN review when I did it back in 08. Both great products. Try finding a partner to split the cost with. A study buddy of sorts. Or maybe a group from your unit.

Hi Gina,
How is your studying for the PCCN going so far? I too want to try the audio you are using but it's so expensive. Is it working for you and when will you take the test? I drive a lot so having good study materials to listen to in the car would be very useful. Let us know your progress. If you happen to live in California, email me. Perhaps we can study together.

I also only used the David Woodruff CD's and was able to borrow them from the hospital library. Have you checked with yours?
Hi PMKNSE,
Yes I checked out my hospital's library. Unfortunately they don't carry test study materials . I think it's a great idea to study, but it would be excellent reinforcement to listen to good audio materials while driving. Congratulations for all who have passed PCCN.
