we are basically in each others backyard :) i am finishing up pre-reqs now and just applied to thomas nelson (waiting for my letter now) but will more than likely start nursing school next fall. i have looked into riverside as well and thought about applying there after i finish up classes... guess time will tell :)

hmmmm- i wonder if we have had any classes together? i took a+p last semester and ethics last summer, all at thomas nelson.. i'm in chemistry now. so you might be applying to riverside? are you waiting to hear from thomas nelson first? i know a few people who are applying to thomas nelson's program. i'm taking micro in the fall and hopefully will be accepted for the spring semester.

i am taking a&p this summer along with med term. this fall i will finish up my remaining classes (micro being one of them). i went ahead and applied for the fall semester at tncc just for the heck of it... i doubt that i get in but you never know. it sounds like they have taken some people at the lower end of the point scale before. we were supposed to be notified on or before april 15th by mail... and apparently they want to use every last minute they have! lol i am very eager and nervous which i think is a little odd because i kinda know what the letter will say. i figure the people that were a shoe in to the program and those that they knew stood absolutely no chance probably got letters first... guess i was in the middle of the stack somewhere. i would really like an alternate spot that would ultimately mean if i did not start in the fall i would be guaranteed a spot next fall!

i have heard a lot of great things about riverside's program. the clinical experience is supposed to be great as is the staff. i know that they were hiring a lot of new staff recently so hopefully that will stay the same. i am a little leery of the diploma program vs. the asn at tncc so that has been one thing holding me back. the other is that i didnt take school very seriously when i first started so my gpa was really low and riverside wants a complete transcript audit. i do not think my chances of getting in there are nearly as good as getting in at tncc. when i went to the nursing information meeting they basically said if you had all the classes completed you could pretty much guarantee a spot in the program so after this fall i will have everything done for the tncc program. i am still thinking about riverside though esp since they take in new classes several times a year vs. tncc's fall only starting.

good luck! perhaps we will see each other on campus :)

riverside has a great reputation. after completeing the program, you are eligible to take same boards that those with an asn or a bsn would take. they also have a high pass rate. in addition, they have an rn to bsn program that they work in partnership with, with vcu in richmond. they come down one weekend every month and it takes about 18 months. so, if for some reason yo dont get into tncc, they are a great option! maybe we will have micro together next semester!

i may have to look into it more. like i said i have always heard good things about the program and the clinical experience... even more so now that riverside is getting more into partnering up with evms and mcv even... becoming a good teaching school setting for many students... and it is actually the hospital that i would like to work at after all is said and done.

from what i hear the vcu program is great and is open to any students who applies and is accepted. one of the pacu nurses was applying when i had my knee surgery last month (she works at mih) and was going to go to riverside once a month for exams, etc... the rest was done online.

i know that riverside has no problem hiring diploma nurse but i was told that mih will not hire a diploma nurse for many positions... they require a "degree" and prefer it to be a bsn for almost every position... of course they also tried to get rid of lpns working on the floors for a while too and found that the nursing shortage was too much to handle so now they are re-hiring lpns for some floors.

i guess a lot of it depends on how things go at tncc as to where i will go. does riverside allow you to take any of the pre-reqs while in the nursing program like tncc will? i thought i read somewhere that they would but could be mistaken.

you can apply and become accepted whil completeing prereqs but yo have to have all of them done before you start their program. i didnt realize that anyone could apply to the rn-bsn program at riverside- that's wonderful.

riverside just won a national award that only 40 hospitals per year are given. one of the other hospitals awarded was johns hopkins so they are in good company!
