Is anyone applying to the DEMSN program at Sonoma State?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Just wondering, I haven't heard much about the program but I did go to an open house earlier this year. Was wondering if anyone else is thinkingof applying this coming year or anyone here graduated from the program, would love to hear from you.

Hi,

I'm thinking about applying to this program as well. Like you, I am having trouble getting much information about it, and there are no more information sessions available.

Do you know if the GRE is required for the application? Or any other extrance exam?

Did you learn anything interesting about the program during the information session? How many people do they admit each year?

Good luck on your application!

No GRE's are not required. Their intake is 30 students and admissions is every even year. I loved the campus and the dean seems very nice. Goddluck.

Thanks so much for that helpful information. I didn't see any mention of the GRE, but all the nursing schools seem to have different requirements so I wanted to make sure.

Good luck to you too!!:wink2:

Hi!

So I officially mailed my application today! :D

I'm curious why there isn't more action for this program? I ran a search, and there are very few posts about it. It seems like this program is a little under the radar. I guess with less applicant there's less competition....

I'm doing my best to get into a CC CNA program this Summer in hopes that I might get in.

Fingers crossed!

Hi everyone,

I have also applied to the DEMSN. Looking forward to the interview notices being sent out. I've been trying like gang busters to become a student in a nursing progam for the past year. It's been a slow process. I've been talking with a student in last years DEMSN class and am very excited about what she's been talking about. This would be a great program to go through for many reasons. Best of luck to you all. Cheers, Ahn

Hi Ahn,

Good luck in your application! I've found it very difficult to find much information on this program beyond what's on the website. I did note that it had a 100% NCLEX pass-rate on the Ca. Board of Nursing website, which I thought was a good sign. I'm assuming that the student you know who is in the program is having a good experience?? I'd love to hear more if you have anything to share. Do you know anything about how the online class format is working out? From my understanding, clinicals are done at various places around Sonoma, but the majority of the class work is done online.

I've been doing pre-requs & volunteering part-time for the past 3 years, and have just started applying to nursing schools. I only applied to two so far. I'm beginning to realize I should just apply to all the programs I can at this point! It seems like every program has a different set of requirements which is pretty frustrating. I guess all the work makes it feel more rewarding when you do get in somewhere.

All the best and take care!

:yeah:

Hey touch,

I hear you about the different prerequisites at each school. Ugh! I'm actually planning on taking a full semester of classes next fall just to be able to broaden the net I'm casting. Totally ridiculous! But, I know what I want to do. And the sooner I can get school over with, the cooler life is going to be.

I actually work with the woman who's in the program now. She said that the the on-line portion is a lot of work but if your motivated, it can actually be more convenient because it cuts out all of the commuting to school. I believe there may be one day a week where you are actually on campus for school. Clinicals start very soon after you begin the program and her experiences with clinicals also sounded very cool. She said she felt good about taking the NCLEX this past December but wouldn't be taking it until this summer. It sounds like she's very prepared. She also gave me a much better understanding of what it is that a Clinical Nurse Leader actually does and what graduates of the program where going on to do. That hadn't been overly clear to me before but I'm begining to understand that a CNL isn't just a bedside nurse but is acutally someone who can work to change the way care is being delivered. I can't remember word for word what she had said but I do remember being very excited that I had applied following our conversation.

Sooner or later it's gonna happen. Much much luck to you! Cheers, Ahn

Anyone hear anything???

I just found out I was accepted. Good news.

Congratulations! I was told they weren't sending out notifications until the first week of July...Now I'm worried! Do you mind sharing how you were notified of admission to the program?

Thanks!

I received an email yesterday morning. They might be going alphabetically or something else could delay the process. Who knows. Good luck everybody.
